WS 08/09
my university timetable is becoming ever more colourful. this time red marks my major courses i.e.: German Philology stuff, purple is Philosophy, blue stands once again for Comparative Literature and my NEW AND SHINY GREEN: Classical Philology YAY! CHEERS! I'm happy I finally decided to study Latin. Don't ask why it took me so long... happy now :) - oh and ORANGE is also something new and exciting: it's a tutorial that will be going on for 2 semesters, it's at the University of Technology, Vienna (yes, it is strange) and they will teach us to read and understand Japanese in only 1 year. amazing, isn't it? I'm sure I will be talking a LOT about this course as the first lesson was already more than awesome(- if strange...).

The schedule says it's a Lit in Translation course? Do you know what you're reading? :)

Sadly the prof hasen't shown up until now (the course should have started 2 weeks ago but he's been ill so he sent his assistant) We are to read Amphitruo by Plautus (in German), which I already did. and we're told to look for "Greek elements" (not sure about the correct English translation) in this "comedy" - I don't know if that's the right term.
I didn't think we would read translations at all.. I've bought a bilingual edition (if that's how you say it in English..) and hope to read it in Latin too - if I find the time.
Hopefully we'll learn more about what we'll be reading tomorrow :) I'm sure I will post about it excitedly! ;) I also wish I could have taken more Latin courses but alas they didn't fit with my other plans :(
oh and he reccomended those books:
-M. Fuhrmann: Geschichte der römischen Literatur
-C.B.Conte: Latin Literature: A History
I guess I'll take a look at them.
